We made a campground blunder for our last night in Yosemite by booking a spot outside of the park, thinking it was no biggie. Oh boy, did we miscalculate. Over 1 ½ hours and 56 miles of twisty-turny roads later, we were regretting our choice. We knew it would be foolish to try and go back to the park the next day before heading to Tahoe. So the next day, off to Tahoe we went, facing even more snaking roads through the mountains. It was like a never-ending rollercoaster, with nothing but more curves in sight.
Views along the way to Lake Tahoe
But hey, I’m not complaining (okay, maybe a little). The views were absolutely breathtaking the entire trip. The Sierra Nevada range truly is a sight to behold, with its towering peaks, massive trees, and stunning alpine lakes. We finally made it to Tahoe, where the ski slopes were still running but you could feel the off-season vibes creeping in. We opted not to ski and just take in the beauty of Lake Tahoe.
Ever since we ventured into the Sierra's, the signs have reminded us we are in bear territory. Surprisingly, the biggest creature we've encountered since the Smokies is a coyote, right smack dab in the middle of Tahoe. Steve has definitely earned the title of wildlife whisperer, spotting critters left and right. We're on the lookout for more furry friends, so send some helpful tips our way if you have any! 🐾
Our time in Tahoe was spent cruising around the lake, checking out cool spots, and grabbing lunch on the pier with a killer view of the water. Tahoe was a first for us, and boy, those snow-capped mountains and the crystal-clear lake definitely did not disappoint in the scenery department! 🏔️💦
