We spent a good amount of time at the Grand Canyon, and let me tell you, it never gets old. It’s like magic how you go from flat terrain to a stunning deep canyon in the blink of an eye. And no matter how many times you look, thanks to the ever-changing sun and weather, you always see something new.
We set up camp at two spots – Trailer Village and Desert View. Trailer Village is conveniently close to the south areas of the park (sorry North Rim, you’re closed until May 15th). But my personal favorite was Desert View. Sure, no hookups, but who needs ‘em when you can take a short stroll from the RV to the rim of the canyon and check out the amazing Watchtower and sunsets over the Canyon. Designed by Mary Colter in 1932, this beautiful Watchtower pays tribute to the local tribes and is a definite must-see at the Grand Canyon. Plus, the sunsets there are epic – Steve let me drag him to a few of them.
During our time at the canyon, we decided to try our hand at boondocking outside the park! It was our first time boondocking on National Forest Land, and I must admit, we were a tad bit jittery at first. Our main goal was to be conveniently close to the airport for our crack-of-dawn flight to Page. We hopped on a plane for a thrilling ride over the canyon, followed by a tour of Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Antelope Canyon, located on Navajo land, is a must-visit spot with knowledgeable Navajo guides leading the way. Our guide was absolutely amazing and I couldn't resist snapping endless photos of the sandstone canyon.
The plane ride was nothing short of spectacular, allowing us to soar over the north rim, admire the Vermillion Cliffs and Marble Canyon, and truly grasp the sheer size of the canyon. As we bid adieu to our camping spot and made our way to the next destination at Glen Canyon and Lake Powell, I couldn't help but feel a little nostalgic.
